Monday I received an email from our editor, Paula, with a question about one of our recipes. I emailed her back that I would make the dessert in question right away and get back to her with an answer by end of day. Paula responded with one question, ‘You keep M&M’s in your pantry?’. Of course I keep M&M’s in my pantry. One of our favorite desserts in the book contains M&M’s, so I always keep them on hand in case something comes up and I need to make a batch of Jill’s Monster Bars.
That question from Paula got me thinking, “Is my pantry normal?” In my opinion, my pantry is very normal. Doesn’t everyone have 5 different types of flour, 22 lbs chocolate, 8 lbs peanut butter, 7 lbs brown sugar, 8 lbs rolled oats, 5 cans non-stick baking spray, 4 lb raisins and 5 types of nuts in their pantry? I asked Jill, “Is my pantry normal?” All she did was laugh.
Maybe my pantry is a little bit heavy on a few items, but I can’t pass up a great sale. If anything gets close to expiring, I give it away to the local food pantry. I take pride in being prepared, so I stock up on the important items. By the way, did I mention I have cinnamon sticks, ground cinnamon, cinnamon oil and cinnamon extract in my spice pantry.
